It works great at neutralizing KCL, the salt formed by corrosive primers.

After you are done firing and while still at the range moisten (not dripping-wet, but sorta-soaked) a patch and run it down the bore and back once. This instantly will neutralize and dissolve the corrosive salt-compounds from the primers and start in on the copper and powder fouling with a vengeance.

I just use boiling water and pour it down the barrel and gas tube, you don't need any Windex or stuff like that.

I had my doubts about using CLP for cleaning after corrosive shooting, but a friend insisted that it worked. After injuring my hand last year and having limited (very limited) use of it, I tried using Break-Free and it works. I sprayed down a Romanian Tokarev with it and had to let it sit for a few days until I could use my hand again.

The cleaner does indeed clean out corrosive residue and everything else including oil! You should use a coating of their gun oil lpx AFTER you use the cleaner. It does not "neutralize" the corrosive salts, NOTHING does including ammonia/windex/etc. Its more like a surfactant which gets under the dirt and residue and floats it away.

Some Gun Solvents and Cleaners state that the Product will neutralize the Corrosive Elements. DO NOT trust the label or the claims. I have seen too many Firearms ruined by people using said Products and improper Cleaning Methods when dealing with Corrosive Residue. The only answer is to remove the Corrosive Salts.

Now. There are a lot of articles out there that recommend using a crazy array of different chemicals and techniques for cleaning your rifle after using corrosive ammunition. I have heard that right after you fire (done shooting) to spray an ammonnia based cleaner down the barrel (windex). I am thinking that it.

Cleaning is best done with soapy water, but it doesn't need to be hot. In fact hot water can cause flash rusting. It doesn't even have to be soapy, actually. The goal is to flush the salts from the bore, using a brush to dislodge them. The problem with corrosive primed ammo is that it really requires 2 types of cleaners.

For years i used a few patches with windex and then finished with Hopes #9 it worked good but it took forever. I shoot a lot of black powder and started using Ballistol for making patch lube and oiling my guns after cleaning. Then i read on the can you can mix it with water to clean black powder and corrosive ammo fouling. So i made up a batch half water and half Ballistol.

I just use water to clean after corrosive ammo. Wash the parts off in the sink or if I have a bayonet, stick the rifle in the ground and pour water over it. Dry manually with paper towels and then put the parts in front of a fan for good measure. Never had a spec of rust.
